Local Content Prioritisation

vaoinsight 11/17/2012
Nigeria is blessed with human and natural resources. This is obvious in every aspect of the country’s economy. Human development is given little or no attention and also the natural resources faces great deal in exploration and exploitation.
It is indeed correct that government had established Content Law to strengthen the indigenous companies to tap the potentials of the Nigerian Content Act, to boost Nigeria’s development and growth.

It should be noted that the Content Act can only suffice when government prioritise it. Government should lead the way, Nigerians total dependant on foreign goods and services will strike out vision 20:2020

There are many locally developed and manufactured content in the country that government did not open wide arm to welcome or put into use. Apparently, this will give a signal that goods not patronised by government will find no feet in the public.

Also locally made content should be develop to meet the standard required by the public, when there is obvious differences in quality and price of product compared to that of the foreign counterpart the public will have a reason for not patronising it.

Financial aid is another issue in prioritising local content, there are so many Nigerians, who have wonderful ideas in actualising standard product but lack sufficient funds to do better than what we are seeing today.
