Wi-Fi Safety Tips

Avoid open (public) Wi-Fi hotspots when sending or receiving sensitive data over the Internet.

Do not use unsecured Wi-Fi hotspots or hotspots that ask you to accept a certificate that your browser or OS deems invalid or unsafe.
Use a VPN connection, if available, for secure access to your company’s network.

If you must use an unsecured hotspot, assume that any websites you visit or information you send over the Internet is visible to others.

Use the security features and software installed on your computer to avoid threats.

Make sure your security software is up-to-date.

Make sure the Wi-Fi hotspot you access is password protected and not available to the public.

If Internet speed is not crucial and nearby hotspots seem unsecure, use a mobile broadband connection if available.

If a website requires a username and password, look for “https” in the browser’s address bar as an indication the site is secure.

10 In general, use common sense when browsing the Web.
